ROMANIA BACKS EU DECLARATION AGAINST DEATH PENALTY

attending the Justice and Home Affairs Council (JHA), the Romanian Minister of Justice Tudor Chiuariu will present Romania's stance in favour of the adoption of the common declaration of the EU and the CE, establishing the annual European Day against the death penalty on October 10. The final declaration of the 3rd World Congress against the death penalty held in April in Paris called on the European Union to celebrate October 10 as official death penalty abolition day. On July 12, the European Parliament approved the text of the Declaration and the JHA Council is to adopt the document on Tuesday. Also within the JHA Council.
